I like reading this outloud:
I take it you already know, Of tough and bough and cough and dough. Others may stumble, but not you, On hiccough, thorough, laugh and through. Well done! And now you wish, perhaps, To learn of less familiar traps. Beware of heard, a dreadful word, That looks like beard and sounds like bird. And dead - it’s said like bed, not bead, For goodness’ sake, don’t call it ‘deed’! Watch out for meat and great and threat, (They rhyme with suite and straight and debt). A moth is not a moth in mother, Nor both in bother, broth in brother. And here is not a match for there, Nor dear and fear for bear and pear. And then there’s dose and rose and lose – Just look them up – and goose and choose. And cork and work and card and ward, And font and front and word and sword. And do and go and thwart and cart – Come, come, I’ve hardly made a start! A dreadful language? Why man alive! I’d mastered it when I was five. |

"The original aim of this article was to demystify the incompleteness theorem of Gödel and the truth-definition theory of Tarski by showing that both are consequences of some very simple algebra in the cartesian-closed setting." ~~ F. William Lawvere - Diagonal Arguments and Cartesian Closed Categories
Oh I wish I knew more about category theory. |

Would you like to read a copy of my thesis on Godel's incompleteness theorems? It's mainly on the first. It's for an audience that knows a decent amount about mathematics but aren't mathematicians (or logicians for that matter). I'll email it if you're interested. |

I can sort of see how there's an analogy between the different "diagonal methods" of Cantor, Godel, Turing and others, but I'm getting tired of people saying things like "diagonal method similar to Cantor's" without backing it up... what does "similar" mean? |

| | metric - white gold | ] | I was ctrl+tab-ing through firefox tabs, and I wanted to go back one. Instead of the correct ctrl+shift+tab I just reversed my fingers, and pressed ctrl with my ring finger and tab with my pinky. It was awkward and didn't work!
Once I've got school behind me, which should be very soon, I am starting a blog. Not like, a human interest what-have-i-been-up-to, but more of a place to focus rants about the rants I do, which mostly all fall into a larger category of concern for the well-being of the planet and its inhabitants. Since I repeat my rants often to those who'll listen, I have this mental list. I would actually like to flush them out with some research and pirate charts and stuff. Criticisms of "green" business, of "solving" the "energy problem", this sort of stuff... much of it I started thinking about in my bioethics class, but I also feel I have a knack for noticing when I'm being bullshited to about something I can reduce to thermodynamics, and this would be a place for me to share that. Thinking wordpress, dunno, some issues with LJ, though I'll probably keep using it for this type of stuff. [bi?]weekly. I'll link from here to it, of course.
So, how about that WAR!? Russian, Georgia, South Ossetia, the US, etc etc. Proxy war with Russia? We've been planning this shit for like a generation. Now that our economy is slowing down, and our military is stretched thin, and Russia's making some good money from selling petro to the EU, this could get interesting. China, EU, what do you think? I don't know anything about this sort of stuff, really. |

Good on my thesis deadline, meeting this week with a reader for recommendations on reordering some stuff and fleshing out certain bits. After I do that, add some diagrams and a few more mathematical expositions, finito.
I've been learning a decent amount about environmental issues (probably not good w/r to my thesis, but I gotta have some other stuff to keep my balanced). Your grandmother's sustainability, plants, thermodynamics of energy production/use.
Saving up money for travels.. Good ol' Missisip', where I'll see family and friends, work a bit, have companion roll through, visit for a few days. Later going to Florida to visit an old friend, and then between there and Oakland (Coast, NOLA, Austin, LA?).
Transformational beat beats:
